Michael believes a Peer Mentor objective is to be a positive role model which can help participant community interaction and encourage them to make positive choices now and in the future.

Jenny believes that the Peer Mentor Program provides the opportunity for every Participant to be treated as an individual. She believes that the relationship formed between the Peer Mentor and the Participant offers everyone a great opportunity to achieve their NDIS goals.

Apart from being a paediatric nurse, midwife and primary school teacher, she has also worked in Disability support at Deakin University and at Gateways supporting students on the autism spectrum. Bronni and her family have been foster carers and she has enjoyed teaching kinder music and running playgroups.

Aaron is in his 3rd year of a Bachelor of Education (Primary) specialising in Health and PE. In his spare time he enjoys tennis, football, basketball, surfing and video games. Courtney has completed her Bachelor of Arts: Creative Writing Major. She is compassionate, empathetic and kind. Courtney has directed and acted in multiple local theatre productions, specifically children’s pantomimes, for theatre arts, singing, dancing, writing, drawing, horse riding, video games, going to the beach and listening to music. She is passionate about the Peer Mentor role because of the amount of joy and relief it can bring to the Participants and their families. Courtney enjoys how each Participant tells their stories and she is invited to watch their personal growth.

Courtney believes that having a positive role model and an element of fun to escape other types of therapy that Participants may receive is very important. She finds it very rewarding to see Participants meet their goals and becoming more independent.

Daniel is about to commence study in a certificate 4 in Mental Health. Once completed he is interested in studying Occupational Therapy or Social Work. Daniel values respect, compassion and trust. He enjoys music, specifically playing guitar, art, video games such as Minecraft, Fortnite and League of Legends, sports including AFL, cooking, writing and history. Daniel is looking forward to making a positive impact in the lives of the participants he works with strengthening his own skills for his future study path.

Emil has a bachelor in Psychological Science and has experience supporting Participants as a peer mentor. He is passionate about seeing change and progress in his Participants. He enjoys being able to help Participants build their capacity and trying to improve their quality of life.

Gayle was a hairdresser for 35 years. In 2010 a career change saw her complete her Certificate 4 in Disability. Gayle has worked in day programs, riding with the disabled, and accommodation ever since. She loves making a difference in the lives of the people she supports. Gayle has real empathy for a person with a disability and likes to ensure that all people are treated equally. Gayle’s passion is horses and she loves developing a real partnership and gaining the trust of a horse who has been reluctant to trust others in the past.

Gemma is studying her final year of Primary Teaching at Deakin. She moved from Deans Marsh to Geelong 3 years ago to pursue her degree. She loves the outdoors, nature, cooking, quality time with friends and working with children. Gemma absolutely loves working with children and recently returned from volunteering in India, which has only made her want to learn more about different abilities and cultures.

Sam plays football for the Geelong Ammos and enjoys all sports, camping, live theatre, spending time with friends and family. He also enjoys video games. Sam is passionate about the Peer mentor Program because he believes that everybody should have the opportunity to have a positive role model in their life and to enjoy social activities. The most rewarding part of the Program is seeing the smile on the faces of Particpants while they work toward their goals while having fun.

Sheridan is currently studying online at Berklee School of Music. She is friendly, trustworthy and accepting. She is a passionate singer/songwriter who loves to play guitar, listen to music, physical activity, the outdoors, movies, the local cinema and spending time with friends and family. She is passionate about the Peer Mentor Program because it provides a wide range of opportunities for her Participants to access the community in a stress-free environment which helps them achieve their individual goals without any added pressure or anxiety. She enjoys her connection with her Participants by finding a common ground which helps build a great rapport.

Stephanie is studying Occupational Therapy at Deakin University. Her interests lie in spinal cord injuries and mental health. She is trustworthy, loyal and empathetic. Stephanie interests lie in working on her family farm, going to the beach, watching AFL (especially the Western Bulldogs) and attending music concerts. She is passionate about the Peer Mentor program because she is able to help her Participants to reach their goals through engaging in meaningful activities.

Tanisha sees every week how excited they are to hang out and talk to their Peer Mentor, and how motivated they are to meet their goals when the mentor is there. Travis has qualifications in Community Services Work and Certificate III in Education he would like to expand on these experiences. Travis’ goal is to guide participants in ways for them to cope better with their disability and help overcome the difficulties and challenges that life can project at them.
