School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)
School Leaver Employment Supports are a crucial part of Employment Support at AYS. This support helps participants bridge the gap between school and work. These supports help school leavers explore potential vocations and understand their work potential. There is a key focus on capacity building, skills development, confidence and independence. We will help you on an individual level to create your pathway to employment. School Leaver Employment Supports are available during the final years of school and directly after leaving school, for generally up to two years.
SLES Frequently Asked Questions
What types of support does SLES provide?
SLES offers a variety of supports, including:
- Work experience in open employment settings
- Job site training
- Travel training to help with commuting to work
- Skill-building activities such as resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace communication
- Linkages to ongoing employment support for sustainable work outcomes.
How long does SLES support last?
SLES is designed to provide up to two years of support, although the exact duration may vary depending on the individual needs and progress of the participant. The goal is to equip participants with the skills and confidence needed to transition into meaningful employment.
How does SLES differ from other employment services?
SLES is specifically designed for school leavers with disability who need extra support before transitioning into long-term employment. Unlike general employment services, SLES focuses on work-readiness activities like skill development, practical job training, and workplace experience, tailored to help young people enter the workforce with confidence.
Can SLES be used alongside other NDIS supports?
Yes, SLES can be used in conjunction with other NDIS-funded supports. Participants often have a combination of supports in their NDIS plan that focus on different areas, such as capacity-building, daily living skills, and employment. SLES complements these by specifically targeting employment outcomes.
