Angus is currently studying a Bachelor of Social Work at Deakin University in Geelong. Angus values respect, honesty and mindfulness. In his spare time Angus enjoys playing music, in particular playing guitar, drums and bass, playing basketball, watching tv shows and movies – he can quote a lot of Harry Potter references. Angus is passionate about the Peer Mentor program as it gives him the ability to support those who need it and it is very rewarding, whether this be teaching someone a new skill or just having fun!

Bianca is passionate about being a Peer Mentor as her previous experience in respite has given her an awesome opportunity to continue doing what she loves while helping her participants with what they love.

Caleb had previously commenced study in Film & Media, however he has placed his studies on hold and has no plans to return to studying at this stage. Caleb values being honest, trustworthy, and respectful. In his spare time, Caleb loves playing sports, in particular playing footy, cricket and soccer. Caleb also enjoys films, video games, and hanging out with his mates. Caleb can also speak very limited Japanese. Caleb is passionate about the program as he really admires the work that is done by other Peer Mentors. Caleb has a family member with autism, so he can really appreciate and understand the support that is received. The best part of the role for Caleb is being able to have the satisfaction of seeing growth in his participants as a result of his support and the feeling he gets for the role he has played.

He is passionate about setting a good example to those around him and is looking forward to helping his participants access the community and help them meet their goals.

Most days he doesn’t feel like he is going to work, but instead feels like he is visiting a friend.

Daniel is about to commence study in a certificate 4 in Mental Health. Once completed he is interested in studying Occupational Therapy or Social Work. Daniel values respect, compassion and trust. Meg is a registered paediatric nurse. In her spare time Meg enjoys hanging out with her dog Noodle (pictured). Activities with Noodle include going for walks around her neighbourhood and along the beach. Meg is also a massive fan of food. This includes baking, eating, and dining out at restaurants with friends. Meg has been a Peer Mentor for over 3 years and during her time has played a key role in helping all participants achieve their goals. Meg is kind, personable and trustworthy.

Melody is studying Occupational Therapy at Deakin University. She is enthusiastic, empathetic and trustworthy. Melody enjoys arts and crafts, spending time outdoors, horse riding, shopping and playing games. She is passionate about the Peer Mentor program because she enjoys helping her Participants achieve their goals and build resilience to become independent individuals. The best thing about her role is participating in the activities that her Participants choose to do.

Michael is currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Deakin University. He has a keen interest in football and exercise, as well as spending his free time with friends. Michael loves working with people to help encourage self development and reaching their milestones.

Molly is currently studying a Bachelor of Social Work and is due to complete this in 2024. Molly values honesty, respect and being adventurous. In her spare time Molly loves going to the beach, watching Netflix, going to the gym, cooking, and travelling. Molly previously worked in the travel industry for 8 years and has also travelled herself. Molly loves the Peer Mentor program as it allows her to empower others to live an authentic life and give them the support they need to develop their skillsets. Molly also loves that she is able to meet new people with diverse lived experiences.

Ned in currently studying Physiotherapy and enjoys playing footy, being active and socialising. Ned is respectful, trustworthy and caring. He is passionate about helping participants to improve their skills to be able to achieve their goals.

Nic is currently studying a Bachelor of Health Sciences, majoring in Family, Society & Welfare, and Psychological Development. He enjoys sports including AFL and Cricket and likes cooking. Olivia is not currently studying at the moment currently while she focuses on AFLW in her gap year. Olivia values being respectful, honest and positive. When Olivia is not playing footy or Peer Mentorin she enjoys playing or watching a variety of sports, yoga, going to the beach, taking photos, cooking (desserts are her speciality) and watching Gossip Girl. Olivia is passionate about this role as it allows her to have the chance to make a difference in someone else’s life, such as helping and encouraging someone to be independent.

Ollie is currently studying Commerce at Deakin University. He is empathetic, trustworthy and respectful. Ollie enjoys sport, gaming, keeping fit, embarking on new experiences, spending time with his friends and listening to music. Olivia is currently studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at Deakin University. She is organised, open-minded and willing to grow and learn. She enjoys working with children and has recently completed a year overseas in the UK where she worked in an elite boy’s preparatory school. She enjoys spectating, playing and coaching sport including netball, swimming, cricket, soccer and touch football. She is passionate about the Peer Mentor role as it allows her to assist and interact with individuals with disabilities. She enjoys the close relationships that she has with her Participants and feels rewarded when she sees them grow and achieve their goals.

Paul has recently completed his Diploma in Community Services and has a keen interest in counselling or family services. Paul highly values honesty, integrity, and compassion. In his spare time, Paul enjoys gardening, gaming, camping and the footy (Paul is a big Melbourne Demons fan). Paul has experience in horticulture and is therefore a well-versed gardener. Paul is passionate about the Peer Mentor program as he enjoys being able to support people to meet their goals and improve their lives, which is very rewarding for Paul. He also loves being able to interact with a diverse range of people.

Rose is looking forward to supporting participants in fun and caring way. Rose will bring happiness to those who she works with and will strive to build their capacity  skills.

Sam holds a Certificate IV in Disability and is determined to complete further study to pursue a career in the disability industry. Sam is passionate about helping others by increasing their confidence to complete their goals. Sam believes the best thing about being a peer mentor is being able to have fun while watching others grow immensely, knowing he was able to be a part of their journey. Sam also feels he can grow personally while watching his participants grow. Sam enjoys playing basketball, football, fishing, being outdoors, socialising with friends and family and watching movies.

Sheridan is currently studying online at Berklee School of Music. She is friendly, trustworthy and accepting. She is a passionate singer/songwriter who loves to play guitar, listen to music, physical activity, the outdoors, movies, the local cinema and spending time with friends and family. She is passionate about the Peer Mentor Program because it provides a wide range of opportunities for her Participants to access the community in a stress-free environment which helps them achieve their individual goals without any added pressure or anxiety. She enjoys her connection with her Participants by finding a common ground which helps build a great rapport.

Tanisha sees every week how excited they are to hang out and talk to their Peer Mentor, and how motivated they are to meet their goals when the mentor is there. Tom is currently studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science with the plan to move into a Masters in Exercise Physiology at the beginning of 2022. Tom values being respectful, trustworthy, and his friendships. Tom has a strong passion for footy and is a big Richmond Tigers fan. He also likes to fill in his summer by playing cricket. Tom is passionate about being a Peer Mentor as he loves seeing people improve and grow in different situations and he believes the Peer Mentor program here at AYS is the perfect place for this. Tom finds the role to be super rewarding in empowering individuals to be the best they can possibly be.
