Greg’s journey illustrates how the Access Your Supports Employment Support Program can empower individuals to secure meaningful employment through further education and training.
Mary, who is Greg’s Employment Coordinator, was initially approached by Djilang Alliance to discuss potential employment opportunities for NDIS participants.
This Alliance brings together Construction and Design experts, McConnell Dowell, Downer Group, Arup and WSP who have formed a partnership to help deliver more frequent and reliable services and improved stations for passengers on Geelong V/Line rail service.
Greg worked closely with Mary, gforce employment + recruitment and the Djilang Alliance Human Resources team to apply and prepare for the interview. Greg was very excited when he was offered the position a little while after the interview.
The job itself involves completing a 12-month paid traineeship which incorporates a Certificate III in Cleaning Operations which is mostly on-the-job-training, and two hours paid training time per week.
“I find the staff are really friendly supportive and very welcoming” Greg shared with Mary. “The job can be exhausting because the duties are physical, but I feel having a physical job is very rewarding. I am very thankful to Djilang Alliance and gforce employment + recruitment for giving me this opportunity to be a valued member of the community and to be part of a very important Geelong Project.”
