Last week we celebrated Emil’s journey, who marked five years of exceptional service at Access Your Supports (AYS). As Emil bids farewell to embark on a new adventure in Melbourne, we reflect on his accomplishments and the impact he has made during his time at AYS.
When Emil first applied, he was drawn to the unique and relevant nature of the Peer Mentor role, which he thought aligned perfectly with his studies and skillset. In this role, Emil discovered that the most gratifying aspect of his role lay in the meaningful social connections he formed with his participants which were at the centre of everything he did. To fellow Peer Mentors, Emil’s advice is simple: nurture those connections, for they are the key to making a lasting difference in the lives of those we support.
Throughout his time at AYS, Emil’s biggest achievement has been enabling multiple participants to achieve independent accommodation. By providing committed support and guidance, he played a pivotal role in empowering individuals to gain autonomy and lead fulfilling lives.
When asked about his favourite part of the job, Emil spoke about the joy he experienced in implementing interventions as part of the Behaviour Support team. Witnessing the positive transformation and improved quality of life for families brought him immense fulfillment. It is evident that Emil’s passion for making a real difference shines through his work, leaving a positive and profound impact on the lives he touches.
Reflecting on his journey, Emil shared that the biggest lesson he learned in these five years is to embrace opportunities wholeheartedly, even in the face of self-doubt or “imposter syndrome”. His advice resonates with all of us, reminding us to push past our barriers and embrace growth.
Beyond his professional endeavours, Emil relishes spending quality time with friends and exploring the vibrant city of Melbourne.
As we bid farewell to Emil, we extend our heartfelt best wishes for his future endeavours. We thank him for his ongoing commitment and his passion for making a real difference.
Congratulations Emil, and best wishes on your exciting new adventure.
