We are proud to celebrate the five-year anniversary of our Human Resources Coordinator, Josh. Josh began his journey at AYS as a Peer Mentor, a role that he held while still studying for a Bachelor of Business at Deakin University. His passion for helping others drew him to the position, and he has been an integral part of our team ever since.
When asked about his biggest achievement, Josh shared his success in helping AYS employees obtain NDIS Worker Screen Checks and COVID vaccination certificates in recent years. Though it may sound mundane, these tasks were monumental and spanned several months. This achievement showcases Josh’s commitment and his willingness to go above and beyond for his colleagues.
Josh’s favourite part of the job is coming to work every day and having genuine conversations with his fellow employees (mostly over a coffee). He loves that AYS has a friendly and welcoming culture and that his role in Human Resources allows him to wear many hats and perform multiple roles. His experience has allowed him to work closely with management, seniors, and employees to navigate challenges and find effective solutions.
Through his work as a Peer Mentor and in Human Resources, Josh has learned a valuable lesson about empathy. He shared, “The Human Resources Coordinator and Peer Mentor roles have allowed me to develop greater empathy for people and their situations. When dealing with Human Resources issues, I like to think I take a balanced approach, and I attribute this to my dealings with participants, employees, and seniors/managers”.
Josh understands that Human Resources is where compliance, strategy, performance, and employee well-being all meet. “AYS employees work tirelessly to support our participants. If I can alleviate some of the stresses associated with recruitment, retention, onboarding, and wellbeing, it allows other employees to channel their focus into supporting participants in achieving their goals”.
Josh is a person with many hobbies and interests outside of work. He describes himself as a “lowkey person” who enjoys having a beer with mates, playing and following sports, and traveling. We admire and appreciate the dedication that Josh has shown to AYS over the past five years, and we encourage all of our employees to pursue their passions and interests inside and outside of work.
Josh’s journey from Peer Mentor to Human Resources Coordinator is a testament to the possibilities of growth and progression that exist within our company. We believe in investing in our employees and providing them with the support and resources they need to grow and succeed. We congratulate Josh on his five-year anniversary and look forward to many more years of working together to provide exceptional care to our participants.
